Philodendron Paradise: Your UK Houseplant Guide

Light: Philodendrons love bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid harsh midday sun, especially south-facing windows. A spot near an east or west window is ideal.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again. Stick your finger in the soil to check - if it feels dry, it's watering time! Reduce watering in cooler months.

Humidity: While they don't need super high humidity, these rainforest natives appreciate a little boost. Misting them occasionally with filtered water or grouping them with other plants can help.

Temperature: Aim for a comfortable room temperature between 18-25°C (64-77°F). Avoid sudden temperature changes and drafts.

Feeding: During spring and summer, feed your philodendron a balanced houseplant fertiliser every 4-6 weeks. Dilute it according to the package instructions and avoid over-fertilising.

Support (climbing varieties): Moss poles or coir poles are ideal for climbing philodendrons. Encourage aerial roots to attach for a natural climbing effect.

Top Tips:

  • Repot your philodendron every 2-3 years into a pot slightly larger than the current one.

  • Wipe dusty leaves with a damp cloth to keep them looking their best.

Remember: Don't be afraid to prune your philodendron! This encourages new growth and keeps it looking bushy.
